| A Few Short Runs to Freedom This is the book that Mermandi is writing about how she is finding "freedom" in her life through running in various races, mostly in London. In 2009, following joining the netmum's running club, Mermandi saw her brother complete the London Marathon. This really inspired her to continue on her running journey! The book talks about things such as breathing, running with Spirit, the lessons that running has taught Mermandi and the ups and downs of her running for freedom journey. Mermandi completed her first 5km run at the Race for the Children on 6th June 2010. She also managed to raise £50 for Great Ormond Street Hospital by doing the race - thank you again to Clayton Ainger and Ted Willcox for sponsoring Mermandi! On 25th July, Mermandi completed the Race for Life in Croydon . A 5km race for ladies only and funds are raised for Cancer Research UK. Mermandi managed to raise £63 for the charity! It was not her favourite race, as it was a cross country race and Mermandi prefers to do road races. At this event, Mermandi learnt that at 5km fun run events, she is to start with the runners and not the joggers! http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/mandigabler On 15th August, Mermandi completed her first 10km race - The Resolution Race for The Stroke Association. Despite having a cold the weekend before the race and thus not able to do much training during the week before the race, Mermandi managed to complete it! She also beat her normal 10k running time by 1 minute! Mermandi felt that if she had been able to train more the week of the race, she would have done even better! Another lesson... Mermandi managed to raise £22 for the charity thanks to Nikki Willcox, Monique Hauptfleisch and Lynn. Mermandi's husband joined her to complete her second 10km race on 19th September in Faversham. 16th October 2010- Mermandi and her husband ran their last race of the season in Wimbledon. They have continued training. In 2012, it is Mermandi's aim to run in the London Marathon! Her main training & fund raising for this event will start from around October 2011!!! Mermandi has invited two very important people from her life to join her in the run - her brother (he fuelled & inspired this journey) and her mentor (Dr Doreen Virtue). |
